General Roles and Functions

1) To promote and enhance the existing good and cordial bilateral political relations between Malaysia and China. 2) To also promote bilateral co-operation especially in the fields of trade, investment, tourism, finance, services, education, culture, etc. 3) To establish close relations and rapport with officials of local authorities, including the Foreign Affairs Office, Shanghai Economic Relations and Foreign Trade Commission (SMERT), Foreign Investment Bureau, etc. 4) Coordinate and facilitate official and business visits from Malaysia to Shanghai and vice- versa. 5) To help and facilitate Malaysians and Chinese on consular matters such as visa, passport, etc.

Administration & Consular Matters

1) To register Malaysians residing in Shanghai and nearby cities. 2) To register marriage, death, divorce, birth born in China, & good conduct application, etc. 3) To visit and help Malaysians in prisons and detentions.

Visa Section

1) To process application of visa to Malaysia including social (tourist), business, students, work permit, etc. 2) Issuance of relevant visas upon approval. 3) To process application for new passport, renewal of passport validity, issuance of emergency certificate.

1) To undertake publicity and promotion of Malaysia as excellent tourist destination. 2) To assist Malaysia tourism promotion road show to Shanghai and nearby provinces. 3) To participate in tourism exhibition as appropriate.
